FibARM System of External Reinforcement increases load-carrying capacity by up to 4 times and reduces repair time by 10 times
A certificate of approval for production of aviation materials was issued by the Interstate Aviation Committee (IAC) to Prepreg-SKM CJSC, a member of Composite Holding. This certificate authorizes the company to supply innovative materials for domestic aircraft industry.
This certificate (No OPM-24/1 dated 20.06.2011) certifies that Prepreg-SKM CJSC is able to manufacture products complying with the most stringest aviation requirements and facilitates using carbon prepregs in civil and military aircrafts.
Prepregs are composite semi-finished materials obtained by impregnating a reinforcing fiber base with homogeneously distributed polymer resin system.
It’s a landmark for Prepreg-SKM CJSC, an innovative company founded in 2009. For a young company, a certificate of approval for production of aviation materials is an important achievement. Similarly to any other industry where people’s safety is an important priority and concern, certification in aircraft industry is a rather difficult, time-consuming and expensive process. However, Prepreg-SKM CJSC has managed to tackle this difficult task and implement IAC standards within a short period of time.
The General Director of Composite Holding Leonid Melamed said that in the world aviation industry light and strong composite materials based on carbon fiber have to a considerable extent already replaced traditional metals – aluminum and titanium. “For example, Boeing 787 Dreamliner is made from carbon composite materials. In most recent Russian aircrafts, the share of such materials is still much lower. However, Russian aircraft manufacturers state their intention to use more composite materials”.
The next step to be taken by Prepreg-SKM CJSC will be obtaining international certificates for its aerospace industry quality management system to certify its compliance with AS 9100, said Quality and Certification Director of Composite Holding Victor Uspensky. Today, having a quality management system certified compliant with the said standard is a mandatory requirement of the world’s leading aerospace manufacturers, such as Boeing, Airbus, Bombardier, Pratt & Whitney to their suppliers.
The reinforcement system based on a carbon cloth can restore and increase the carrying capacity of structures in a short time and less effort than traditional methods, as well as significantly increase the life of the structure.
